62 Year Old Former US Marine Sets Planking World Record

Last week 62 year old and former US Marine George Hood has the Guinness World Record for The Longest Abdominal Plank in Chicago with an incredible time of eight hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds.

Beating the previous record of 8 hours and one minute set by Mao Weidong in China 2016.

In preparation for his record attempt, Mr Hood says he did around 2,100 hours of planking.

He finished off his planking event by showing how strong and fit he was by doing 75 push ups. An incredible feat in itself.

Hood announced his retirement from plank record attempts after breaking the record. He started planking in 2011 and trained for seven hours a day ahead of the event.

In an interview with the BBC, Hood said “I have to totally disassociate myself from the reality of the clock. It’s an art and a skillset that I have mastered over the years.”

To help him focus and concentrate on the event Hood had rock music playing throughout his record attempt.

“When I was growing up, I was fascinated with rock and roll – Van Halen, Motley Crue, Deep Purple. I would watch their videos when MTV came out and it fascinated me,” he said.

“I always just wished I could be a rock star, just for 24 hours to live that dream – the limo rides, the buzz, the hype,” he added.

“I can assure you, for those eight hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds, I was that rock star.”

An incredible feat by George Hood proving that age is just a number.
